Davis Fiesta

Davis Fiesta

In 2018 Borderlands Theater produced our second Barrio Stories Project: BARRIO STORIES IN BARRIO ANITA. The event marked a milestone in our creative placemaking strategy leading to the revival of the Barrio Anita’s neighborhood association, re-opening of Oury Pool a year later, and a deeper relationship between Borderlands Theater, Ward 1, and the long-time residents of Barrio Anita.

Check out the Arizona Illustrated feature on Barrio Stories in Barrio Anita.

Last year, Davis Bilingual Elementary Principal, Marisela Campillo, proposed to recreate the spirit of that successful event in a block party that would bring new and long-time Barrio Anita residents together with the Davis community to celebrate the history and heritage of the neighborhood. We enthusiastically accepted!

EVERYONE is invited to this free event where you can listen to the best youth mariachis in the city, sample heritage cooking on the outdoor wood burning stove by Davis 1st grade teacher extraordinaire, Julian Barcelo; or check out a brand new mural reflecting Davis and Barrio Anita history designed by Anita resident and muralist, Julian Argote, and painted students in Sra. Valencia’s art classes.
