Education Coordinator – Borderlands Theater Barrio Stars Youth Program
Are you passionate about theater, education, and promoting Chicano and Latinx culture? Borderlands Theater is seeking an Education Coordinator to lead the Barrio Stars Youth Program, a dynamic and culturally rich theater education initiative serving Tucson’s school districts and surrounding communities.
This role is perfect for an experienced and creative individual dedicated to fostering a love for the performing arts while ensuring inclusive and accessible educational experiences for students from diverse backgrounds.
$25-35 per hour based on experience, 20 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development:
– Design and implement culturally relevant theater education programs aligned with Borderlands Barrio Stars’ mission.
– Adapt current curriculum and lesson plans for diverse age groups and experience levels.
– Promote inclusivity and accessibility for underrepresented groups.
Community Engagement:
– Build strong relationships with Tucson’s schools, educators, and community organizations.
– Represent Barrio Stars at school events, community meetings, and local workshops.
– Collaborate with local arts organizations to expand outreach efforts.
Coordination and Logistics:
– Organize and schedule seasonal camps, after-school programs, and performances.
– Manage transportation, materials, and other logistical needs for off-site programs.
– Oversee registration and enrollment processes.
– Recruit and interview teaching artists in collaboration with Borderlands staff.
Teaching and Facilitation:
– Lead theater camps and classes, cultivate an engaging learning environment.
– Collaborate with theater professionals and teaching artists to deliver impactful lessons.
– Provide a safe and inclusive space for all participants.
Evaluation and Reporting:
– Gather and analyze feedback from students, parents, and educators to assess program success.
– Maintain records of program outcomes and prepare improvement reports.
– Continuously enhance curriculum based on feedback and assessment results.
Marketing and Promotion:
– Work with the marketing team to promote programs through social media, newsletters, and the website.
– Create promotional materials highlighting Barrio Stars’ unique offerings.
– Attend events to recruit participants and increase program visibility.
Budget Management:
– Develop and manage program budgets for sustainability.
– Collaborate with the Director of Education and Development on fundraising efforts for tuition assistance.
Qualifications:
– Experience in Theater Education, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field.
– 2+ years in theater education, outreach, or community engagement, ideally within school districts or underserved communities.
– Strong understanding of culturally relevant curriculum development emphasizing Chicano and Latinx traditions.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with educators, students, and community partners.
– Proven ability to teach and facilitate group workshops or classes.
– Familiarity with Tucson’s local schools, particularly TUSD, is highly valued.
– Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
– Creative problem-solving skills and proficiency with registration systems and Google Workspace are a plus.

Seeking Passionate Teaching Artists For Upcoming Spring Youth Camp!
Are you an inspiring and imaginative individual with a passion for education and the arts? BorderlandsTheater wants YOU to be a part of our upcoming project!
Dates: March 10th – 14th 2025
Project Overview:
We are excited to debut Barrio Stars at Pueblo, a youth camp taking place in the spring with an original script that will captivate the minds of 6th – 8th graders. As a teaching artist, you will have the opportunity to bring this script to life through engaging and dynamic workshops. Join us and cultivate creativity, expression, and a love for the performing arts for our local communities!
What We’re Looking For:
– Enthusiastic teaching artists with a background in drama, theater, or related fields.
– Experience working with elementary school-aged children and class management.
– Energy to encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
– Facilitate interactive and educational workshops based on the original script.
– Inspire creativity, teamwork, and self-expression in young minds.
– Collaborate with a talented team of educators and professionals.
